Joel Sweeney serves as the Director of Marketing and Business Strategy. He works with an array of internal and external affairs including marketing, business strategy, and development for The Overton Group and its affiliates and subsidiaries. As a part of the companies leadership team, he steers the strategic growth and raises brand awareness for the firm.
Joel was born and raised in Independence, Iowa. He attended the University of Dubuque, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and earned a degree in Sport Marketing and Management with a Business Management minor. In addition, he earned the Sport Marketing and Management Award of Excellence, the highest honor in the department. In his college years, Joel worked with the MLB, College Football Playoff Committee, NFL, and was hired to work at the 2020 Olympics before its postponement. During his time with the NFL, he earned a Service Award for his game-changing performance at Super Bowl LIV. In 2019, Joel competed in a worldwide marketing case study competition where he and his team provided content altercations by researching and deploying strategies to underserved markets and placing in the top 5.
Following graduation in 2020, he moved to Greenville where he worked for the local NBC affiliate. He joined The Overton Group in March of 2021.
Joel grew up on his family farm in Iowa, where they raised cows, pigs, and farmed crops. In his free time, he enjoys working on miscellaneous projects, staying busy, cooking, and traveling to the mountains. He enjoys continuing his education through books, classes, and research opportunities.
